David Gulick, the man behind the brand Summer Rental, spends his summers in Montauk (you can usually find him behind the bar at The Surf Lodge) and most of the winters in far-flung places with his feet firmly planted on one kind of board or another. So while we could we caught up with David and asked him to share a few of his favorite places and things.

Where did it all start?
It began in the burbs of NYC.

What is your favorite city and neighborhood?
NYC, East Village / Williamsburg

What is your favorite hotel?
I like what The Standard Hotels have done.

Your favorite restaurant and dish?
Lil Frankie’s gnocchi or anything in taco form.

Best bar?
Anywhere with outside seating, a rooftop, and good people watching.

Favorite vacation location?
I’ve spent a lot of time in Australia, Bali, Costa Rica, Mexico and I still have some dream trips I’m checking off this year… I’ll be in Biarritz in September and then a powder trip to Japan in the winter. I prefer adventure.

Favorite surf spot / board?
I have a 5’6″ hypto krypto that’s magic. There are a few waves on eastern Long Island I love when they have their day but would prefer a warmer version.

Favorite duffel or suitcase?
Burton makes a great Backpack.

Favorite brand?
My own! Duh

Too much to choose! ‘Houses of the Holy’ is high on the list, In Rainbows, Sound of Silver, Joshua Tree, Low End Theory….

I’m super inspired by what John Rose has accomplished with Waves For Water.

Favorite artist?
I’m partial to whats on the streets.
