John Moore, named one of GQ’s 2014 Menswear Designers of The Year, is as multifaceted as the projects he’s worked on. Moore has lead creative and design for the likes of Quiksilver Women’s, VSTR and Hollister. Runs his own branding and creative agency, POP Studios, that tackles projects spanning fashion, consumer goods and retail experiences. And let’s not forget the successful lifestyle brand, M.Nii, for which he received the GQ award. If that were not enough, there is also the recent partnership with Kelly Slater to lead the lifestyle brand launch of OuterKnown, Slater’s latest venture. And despite all of this Moore remains more focused than ever. Here he reveals a few of his style inspirations and the things that makes John, John.

What is your favorite city and neighborhood?
I recently had a beer in Gateway, Montana and felt quite comfortable there.
What is your favorite hotel?
The Bowery Hotel, headed there now.
Your favorite restaurant and dish?
Anything at Vinegar Hill House.
My Son Costa brings me a Stella when I walk in the door, hard to beat…
Favorite vacation location?
The North Shore of Kauai, the Arizona Desert and my new obsession are the Mountains of Montana.

Zuma / Tyler Warren Dream Fish.

Favorite shoe maker?
I have a pair of Martin Margiela brogues that I have worn for a decade, but you’ll usually find me in VANS, Havaianas or Birkenstocks.
A 1986 Land Rover D 90 that CAN BE registered in California.
Favorite watch / watch brand?
I don’t wear watches, but I do have a vintage Hamilton that was a gift and my father gave me his Omega Speedmaster from the early seventies when I turned 40.
Essential gadget you can’t live without?
My IPhone 4
Your favorite book?
The Catcher in the Rye. A friend just told me to get Thai Stick by Peter Maguire and I think I will enjoy it.
Favorite song or album?
Many Rivers To Cross – Nilsson & Lennon
Favorite not for profit?
In the last year, I have supported Waves for Water and Doctors without Boarders.
Where do I begin… Raymond Pettibon, Kyle Field, Serena Mitnik-Miller, Mike Paré & Geoff McFetridge are a few that constantly inspire, but there are so many others!
