Living in this age of technology, it isn’t uncommon to become friends with someone through social media, in fact, I’d say it is almost pretty normal! And as much as we sometimes hate it, social media can bring a lot of positive things to our lives, especially when it comes to meeting like-minded and creative individuals. For us, meeting Katie Durko a few years back is a perfect example of the way in which social media can connect people from all over the country, and the world.

To us, Katie is very much a part of the Surf Collective family as she is the eyes and ears of the West Coast surf and social scene. From her amazing taste in music to her impeccable fashion sense, Katie is, in our eyes, the definition of a cool chick.

Now, after years of working in fashion, Katie can be found hard at work building her amazing new company, The Social Kat, where she fuses her expertise in digital marketing, social media and public relations to help brands effectively convey their aesthetic and reach their utmost potential when it comes to social outreach.

So without further ado, we are stoked to have our next Style-List feature this California born and bred beauty and surfer girl. See below!

Where did it all start?
In a little southern California town called Manhattan Beach.

What is your favorite city and neighborhood?
Paris. During my junior year of college, I spent six months there and fell in love. I’m a beach girl at heart, but there is just something about that city that pulls at my heartstrings.

What is your favorite hotel?
Not sure if I have found it yet! I’m a big fan of cozy, boutique hotels. We are heading to Bali in a few months and I have a feeling I might find it there.

Your favorite restaurant and dish?
Panchos, it’s a Mexican restaurant down the street from where I grew up in Manhattan Beach near El Porto. Their chicken nachos are next level good.

Best bar?
Tasting Kitchen on Abbott Kinney in Venice. Ask the mixologist for the Apocalypto, an off-menu tequila and ginger drink that will make your head spin.

Favorite vacation location?
Kauai. My family has a spot on the North Shore, so I have spent a good amount of time on the island over the past few years. It’s truly a magical place.

Favorite surf spot / board?
I surfed Las Flores, El Salvador last winter with my boyfriend. Perfect surf point to learn on a long board.

Favorite duffel or suitcase?
Rimowa. Worth every penny.

Favorite brand?
You can’t go wrong with the 4 C’s: Chanel, Chloe, Celine and Calvin.

Favorite jean brand?
Vintage Levis.

A perfectly worn-in black leather jacket.

Matthew at Mar Vista cleaners. He treats me like family.

Your salon?
The longest relationship I’ve ever been in is with my hairdresser, Justin Anderson at Chris McMillan – going 8 years strong! He has a knack for blondes.

Coffee or tea?
Recently, I’ve been drinking a lot of tea. One of my clients just launched a luxury tea brand called The Kollo and I am hooked.

Favorite shoe maker?
For day, Nike. For night, Aquazzura or Gianvito Rossi.

Dream car/bike?
I already have it! I ride my Sole City Cruiser all over the Westside.

Favorite watch / watch brand?
Cartier Santos Demoiselle, it was a gift from my mother for my 21st birthday. I never take it off.

My iPhone 7. Working in social media, it’s pretty much glued to my hand at all times.
