For day three of the Billabong Pipeline Masters, In Memory of Andy Irons, the heat to watch was most certainly that between the 11 time world champion, 39 year-old Kelly Slater, and 19 year-old John John Florence, dubbed the New Prince of Pipe by Jon Coen of ESPN. John John, who had Kelly on the ropes with only minutes left in the heat, nailed a huge pipeline bomb for a 7.0 leaving Kelly with no choice but to find two fantastic rides in the remaining minutes of the heat, to even attempt to take the lead. But as it was watching Jordan in the final minutes of playoff games bringing back the Bulls for what seemed like an impossible win, Kelly managed to pull out two killer rides (one for a 9.7 and another for a 7.83) to take the lead, stealing the semifinals spot from Florence.
A well deserving Kieren Perrow killed it in the final, selecting and maneuvering the limited waves provided scoring a 13.17 beating out Joel Parkinson (7.0) to take the heat and the win. Big Congrats Kieren!
Hear are some highlights from Day 2 and Day 3 of Pipe.
